One of the limitations of breast MRI is the question of what to do if something suspicious is seen only on the MRI exam and cannot be felt or seen by mammography. In these cases, it is important to be able to locate the lesion by MRI, either immediately or during another exam, and take a tissue sample. Many institutions and medical devises companies are working on the best way to perform MRI-guided breast biopsies.
