UCSF Parent Resources Basic List - August 2001 - SMN

Dated 8/01

Please note, this information was gathered by a postdoc and may no longer be up to date.

The following are resources I've found at UCSF for parenting & childcare. This list is by no means complete or perhaps even entirely accurate. It's just info I've found. If something is particularly interesting to you, I encourage you to find out more about it. If anyone has any other resources that would be helpful to others, please send them!

Tax Breaks

----------

Depending upon your tax bracket, there are different options for claiming a child care tax credit. I can't guarantee this information, it's just what I've figured out so far. If you are in a slightly higher tax bracket, it makes sense to use DepCare, where you have money (up to $5000/year) taken out of your pay and then after you pay for childcare, you get this money reimbursed. UCSF does this as do many other employers. There's some info on this on: http://www.ucop.edu/bencom/hw/hw.html and on related links. Sign up in November or within 30 days of a change of status (like having a kid). --------------------------------------------------------------------------
